This Thanksgiving, we camped at Island Resort Campground in Newark, Maryland.

DSC00298We decided to take a break from dock diving, and visit Annapolis since we had never been there.  We decided to stay at the Washington  DC/Capitol KOA.

This campground was well taken care of, the bath house was super-clean, AND they had a great doggie play area with agility equipment!

The campground staff could not have been nicer – and every employee that rode by on a golf cart stopped to say hello to the dogs, and give them a treat!  The friendliness towards dogs here is unbelievable!  The drive to Annapolis was about 15-20 minutes.

We stayed on site 11:

We would definitely stay here again!

Holiday Trav-L-Park, Virginia Beach, VA

For Cello’s dock diving event in Virginia Beach, we camped at Holiday Trav-L-Park in Virginia Beach, VA.

DSC07995

Although we were at the dock diving event all day and didn’t spend much time at the campground, we did observe that this campground was clean, and that the staff were very helpful and nice.
Holiday Travl-L-Park is situated very conveniently near many historical attractions, and outdoor activities.

Frontier Town Campground, Berlin, MD

We camped at Frontier town Campground in Berlin, MD for Cello’s Pooch Palooza dock diving event.  I have to say – this may be one of my favorite campgrounds!

I can’t wait to go back!!

This campground boats a theme park, water park, crabbing docks, arcade, restaurant (with excellent food!!), saloon, miniature golf, horse back riding, water park, and a “High Ropes” obstacle course suspended in the air in the trees!

DSC0687105

We stayed on site “Red 14” (Z 16) – and it was AWESOME! The only other site we saw that was slightly better view than ours was Z 16.

Our site, Z 14:

Round Top Campground

Round Top Campground is located in Gettysburg, PA.  We stayed at this campground for Cello’s dock diving practice hosted by Chesapeake DockDogs at Detour Winery.

DSC02720

This campground has some great theme-based weekends planned for their campers.  The weekend we stayed here it was “Christmas in July!”

Our campsite at Round Top was spacious.  DSC02726

Round Top Campground was recently voted Good Sam top rated RV park for 2014.  This park offers many amenities to their campers such as an Olympic size pool (with separate kiddie pool), store/gift shop, 18-hole mini golf, horseshoes, volleyball, basketball, shuffleboard, laundry room, game room, and outdoor movie theater, just to name some!2014resortmap

Codorus State Park and Campground, Hanover, PA

For Cello’s Codorus Blast Dock Diving Event, we camped at Codorus State Park in Hanover, PA.  Located in York County, this park boasts a gorgeous 1,275 acre lake, where many come to fish and picnic.  Codorus State Park also offers many other recreational activities such as horseback riding, swimming, scuba diving, boating, hunting, and disc golf.

DSC02084

This park was big, clean, gorgeous, and the staff was more than friendly.  The sites were level and spacious, and included a fire ring.  The facilities were very clean, and within walking distance to our site.

Prince William Forrest RV Campground, Dumfries, VA

While participating in the Celebrate Fairfax dock diving event, Cello camped at Prince William Forrest RV Campground.

If you look at the map, we stayed on site F14

The bathrooms were extremely clean, and the staff was more than friendly.  If you stay at this campground, be sure to ask about fire rings – some sites have them, and others do not.

PuppyPalooza, Detour Winery, Granite Hill Campground, and The Mason Dixon Line!

Cello participated in the PuppyPalooza Dock Diving Contest Hosted by Chesapeake Dock Dogs at Detour Winery in Keymar, MD.

For this event, we stayed at Granite Hill Campground in Gettysburg, PA, as this was the closest full-hookup campground to the winery.

Detour Winery is located in Keymar, Md.  We drove on some really beautiful country roads to get there. The winery provided free tastings of their wines for the dock dogs participants, and offered wine by the bottle or glass for sale.  They were also selling a really cool wine “sippy cup” that I just HAD to have…!

This was the first contest that we have attended where the dock was set up into a pond instead of a pool.

Although it started out as NOT Cello’s weekend, she wrapped it up nicely with a spot in the finals, and earned Second Place in the Masters Division Finals with a jump of 22’8″, just one inch shy of her personal best.

Cello’s results from PuppyPalooza were as follows:

Killens Pond State Park, Felton, Delaware

Cello was involved in a dock diving event at the Dover Days Festival in Dover Delaware this past weekend, so we hunkered down at Killens Pond State Park, about 25 minutes from the dock diving event.

DSC01035

DSC01039

We were pleasantly surprised when we arrived at Killens Pond.  The campsites were arranged in small loops.  We stayed on campsite D5 (loop D, campsite 5), and had a nice sized private space with a view of the pond from our living space, and a wooded scene out our rear bay window.

View from our living space:

DSC01041

View from our back bay window:DSC01040

The campground was clean, and have several campground hosts located throughout the campground.  We had an issue with our electric during our stay, and the campground host on our loop couldn’t have been more helpful.

The campground had a pretty hiking trail that ran along the pond and through the park.  The trail was very flat and well-maintained.  photo 3 (2)

photo 2 (3)

This campground only has full hook-ups on the campground host sites, however our site had electric and water.  There is a well-leveled and easily accessible dump station located on your way out of the campground.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Killens Pond, and very much enjoyed the “tent-camping” feel we got from the rustic, wooded setting of our site.  We would definitely return to this campground if Cello is involved in the same dock diving event in Dover, De this time next year.

Staunton/Walnut Hills KOA, Staunton, VA

Looking at the AAA magazine one evening, an article caught my eye about a small town in Virginia ranked one of the top 20 small towns in the United States…Staunton, VA.  After doing some research, and having never stayed at a KOA before, we decided to give Staunton/Walnut Hills KOA a try for our annual Easter camping trip.  Not only was Staunton/Walnut Hills KOA in close proximity to the town of Staunton, it is also located between the Blue Ridge and Appalachian Mountain ranges on the site of a former walnut plantation…pretty awesome!

Our campsite was right on the lake, and was spacious and clean.

Back to Holiday Park Campground, Greensboro, MD

November 2013

Cello was participating in a dock diving contest in Easton, and Holiday Park was the closest campground to Easton.  We had been here before (our first camping trip with our travel trailer almost a year ago) and enjoyed the campground, our view, and the location (close to St. Michaels, Easton, and Annapolis).   Friends Brandi, Stan, their daughter, Payton, and their dog Guinness joined us for this trip.  Cello won her first 1st place medal while dock diving, and for the first time won 1st place overall in the Masters Division of her dock diving contest!

Lake in Wood Resort, Narvon, PA

October 2013

Lake in Wood Resort…Probably the coolest campground we’ve been to yet!  Also one of thee prettiest, and well-kept campgrounds!  This campground also had wood carvings and totem poles everywhere!  In addition, the “cabins” you could rent were not cabins at all – – they were a double-decker bus, tee-pee, caboose, etc!  Cello rates this one 5 paws!

We had lots  of company on this trip! Friends Brandi, Stan, their daughter, Payton, and dog, Guinness (they just bought a travel trailer and this was their very first trip with it!!) , Aunt Joyce and Uncle Johnny, and friends Chris and Cindy with their dog, and Cello’s boyfriend, Memphis!

On our way home from Myrtle Beach, we decided to try another stop-over location.  We stayed the night at South Forty Camp Resort.  It was a quick visit, just to get some sleep before continuing on our travels home.  I forgot to take a picture of our campsite at this campground – but here were our views from the campsite…

Easter Trip! Ocean Lakes Campground, Myrtle Beach, SC

March 2013

Our Easter destination with friends Jerry, Russ, and their dog Dixie, was to Ocean Lakes Campground. Ocean Lakes was quite the experience!  It was like it’s own little city – over 2,000 sites, on 310 acres! It was HUGE! And everyone there had golf carts – it was quite the experience!  Cello got to walk on the beach each morning, and we took day trips to Conway, Georgetown (lots of dog friendly bars/restaurants!), and Murrells Inlet. We ate Easter dinner in our trailer – Jerry made lasagna roll-ups, and I made meatballs, sausage, and gravy.  What a great time we had!

North/South Lake, Haines Falls, NJ

July 2012

North/South Lake was another favorite trip of ours.  The campground was beautiful, our site was right on the water, and we had a bear walk right by our campsite each night!  It was so neat to see, but very scary to have a bear only 15-20 feet away from us!  We had to sign a waiver at this campground about the bear, and agree to take the necessary precautions – which luckily WE did – because that bear that walked by our campsite ransacked another tenting family’s tent who didn’t follow the rules, and had food inside their tent!  Great hikes here as well.

It was a great weekend with a trip to Bushkill Falls for a short hike.  Our campsite was right on the Delaware River.  Right after we retired to inside the tent the first night, we had  what sounded like a pack of wild coyotes run by – it was so scary to hear something like that so close by!

Blue Rocks Family Campground, Take 2

April 2012

Back to Blue Rocks Family Campground for our second camping trip ever, and for the first of many camping trips in the 2012 camping season.  It was also for my 40th birthday (am I really that old??) It dropped down to 29 degrees the first night, and snowed… We had a below-freezing rated sleeping bag, and sat around the fire for as long as we could before retiring to our tent.  To go to sleep in the tent, I had a layer of Under Armour on, a layer of thermals, a layer of sweat pants, a winter coat, a winter hat, and hand/foot warmers jammed every which place I could find!  Oddly, Cello slept in our sleeping bag for only a short time before working her way out to on top of the covers!  Crazy dog!  Luckily, the rest of the weekend was warm, and we had an enjoyable time.

photo (1)

We had to pack Cello her own chair for around the fire since during our first camping trip she “stole” Brian’s the first time he got up out of it!

October 2011

Our first camping trip -ever -for all of us! We went to Blue Rocks Family Campground.  Brian and I had never tent camped before, but we thought it would be a great activity to get into for Cello – and for us.  Cello was just 7 months old on this trip.  She was so calm and content – we had a great weekend! Little did we know it was the start of an obsession!

We bought a tent with a front porch area…just like at home 😉
