Cherrystone
We camped at Cherrystone Family Camping Resort for Cello and Hooch’s dock diving event in Cape Charles, VA.
You can see by the campground map, this place was pretty big! It was also right on the water, and although we weren’t able to secure a waterfront site, we had a water view from our campsite:
With just a short walk to the water’s edge, we had a wonderful time walking the pups!
This campground offers cabins, cottages, on site rental trailers, and campsites. Cherrystone also offers many great amenities:
Little Neck Cafe
General Store
Farm Stand
Bait and Tackle Shop
Laundry Facilities
RV Services
Rental Golf Carts
ATM Machine
Free Wi-Fi
We wish we had more time to explore this great campground. We hope to be able to take advantage of some of the great amenities mentioned above at our next stay!
Bark in the Park at Bay Creek, Cape Charles, VA
Cello and Hooch competed in a Wild Card event, called “Bark in the Park,” held at Bay Creek, in Cape Charles, VA. What a gorgeous and dog friendly community!!
We bought a new canopy – LOVE it!

MEET THE DOG WHO CAN FLY
Posted By: Liz

Jenny and Brian Beadling had no idea they were raising a prodigy.
Their German Shorthaired Pointer, Limoncello, never took to the sport her breed is known for—hunting—because she had a fear of guns. But she still had that GSP high drive, which she’d exert by jumping off the dock of the family’s lake house to retrieve toys they’d thrown in the water. “We began to notice at a very young age, she would jump off the dock just for fun—even with no toy being thrown for her,” Jenny Beadling says. So when the family saw a “dock diving” event for dogs at a local festival, they thought, “why not?”
And so, a star was born.

Limoncello (or Cello for short) came in second place in that first event and in the year and a half that followed, she’s become one of the highest-ranked dock-diving GSPs in the world.

Cello competes as an “Iron Dog,” meaning that she participates in all three dock-diving events, including Big Air (long jump), Extreme Vertical (high jump), and Speed Retrieve (timed retrieving). And this November, she’ll be one of the dogs representing the USA at the DockDogs World Championship in Dubuque, Iowa. She’s also inspired her little brother, Hooch, to try out the sport.

And like any pro athlete, Cello has earned endorsement deals. TurboPup selected Cello to be the ambassador for their human-grade meal-replacement bars for active dogs on the go. Her social media accounts have attracted tens of thousands of followers, and she’s been featured in multiple publications.

“With her vibrant personality, extreme speed, and stunning build, she is a crowd favorite,” says Beadling.

But she’s not in it for the fame and fortune. The Beadlings donate all the cash awards won by Cello and Hooch to the German Shorthaired Pointer Rescue of NJ, and all of their food and toy prizes go to a local animal-welfare organization.
Longport Dog Beach, Egg Harbor Township, NJ
BringFido.com has a list of their top 10 dog friendly beaches in New Jersey. I decided to take Hooch for a ride and try one out – so off we went to the Longport Dog Beach!
Hooch was ready to go on his first-ever solo adventure!
We found it! This beach is located at the base of the Ocean Drive Bridge, on the Longport side, across from the fishing pier.
Walking on the path leading to the beach:
Along this path we saw the sweetest thing: A tribute to a dog who once loved to play on this same beach. A basket of toys were left in memory of Scruffy, so that other dogs could enjoy the beach as much as Scruffy did.
- A great tribute to a dog who once loved to play on this beach!
- Hooch was checking out the toys he could borrow while playing on this beach.
The beach was a pretty good size, with many families enjoying time with their dogs off-lead both on the beach, and in the water.
Hooch is not ready to be off-lead, so he enjoyed running in the water on his leash. Even though he was on-lead, he still somehow managed to steal a tennis ball from a Jack Russell Terrier!
Hooch LOVED playing in the waves:
- Hooch was unsure about this “moving water” at first!
- Then he decided to just go for it!
- He loved jumping the waves!
- Having a blast in the Atlantic Ocean!
We were both soaked, exhausted, and full of sand after this trip!
My sandy co-pilot on the way home:
Looking forward to the next summer adventure!
Happy Independence Day!
Hooch’s First Invitation to Compete in the DockDogs World Championships!
At the DockDogs Mid Atlantic Regional event held at Shipps Corner, in Virginia Beach, Hooch won first place in his division finals to earn an invitation to compete at the World Championships this November! Read the details about this event HERE!

Mid-Atlantic Regionals at Shipps Corner, Virginia Beach, VA
This event was more of a practice for Cello since she had already earned her invitation to the DockDogs World Championships. Cello did get to try a new DockDogs event, called Dueling Dogs – it was lots of fun!
For Hooch, this was a chance to shine, and earn an invitation. Hooch not only earned himself an invite, he scored several new personal bests, and jumped right out of his division with one of the longest jumps of the weekend!
We camped at Holiday Trav-L-Park during this event.

Canton/East Sparta KOA, East Sparta, OH
For Cello and Hooch’s dock diving event in Zoar, OH, we camped at the Canton/East Sparta KOA in East Sparta, Ohio.
We could not have been happier with our site (Site 77)
Our site had a level, concrete pad, and nice landscaping. The site also had a fire pit, and two wooden benches at the fire pit.
We even had our own “nest” style chair, , patio set, and grill!
The concrete slab had imprints of different plants – pretty cool!
This campground had lots to offer:
- 5 acre fishing lake
- horse back riding
- grocery store
- paddle boat rentals
- game room
- hay rides
- laundry facilities
- 18 hole miniature golf
We very much enjoyed our stay here!

Cabela’s Presents DockDogs Wildcard Event, Triadelphia, WV
On the weekend of Hooch’s first birthday, The Liver Killers competed in a dock diving competition in Triadelphia, WV. This competition was held at Cabela’s. This was a very special event that we will never forget, because Limoncello won First Place in Warrior Iron Dog, and earned her invitation to the DockDogs World Championship!
We camped out in Cabela’s parking lot for this event, which was very convenient for our times in between jumps.
Limoncello competed as an Iron Dog. Here are her results:

Hooch did very well this weekend, but wound up with a limp after his last jump. We noticed this as we were lining up for Speed Retrieve. Thank goodness Dr. Yurko of K.E.Y. Animal Hospital was there to evaluate Hooch.
It seemed Hooch had a strained muscle, so we scratched him from the rest of the competition. Here are his results from his Big Air waves:

Cello Earned Her Invitation to the DockDog World Championships!
While competing at the Cabela’s Presents Wildcard event in Triadelphia, WV, Limoncello won first place in Warrior Iron Dog, and earned her invitation to the DockDogs World Championships! The World Championship event will be held in November, 2015, in Dubuque, Iowa.
Our good friends surprised us with the wonderful news!
We were SO excited!
Congratulations, Team Cello !
ONE YEAR OLD!
Happy Birthday to our little man, Hooch! Hooch turned 1 year old on May 24, 2015.
Where did the time go?! It seems like just yesterday this little guy stole my heart and joined our family! We cannot be happier with this pooch, as he has the sweetest temperament, and a heart of gold. Not a day has gone by since we brought him home that we haven’t laughed out loud – Hooch is truly one-of-a-kind !
Hooch’s first birthday fell on a weekend when we were in West Virginia at a dock diving event, but we didn’t let that stop us from celebrating! I baked a cake and cupcakes to bring along to share with Hooch’s dock diving buddies. Hooch and Cello watched carefully over the oven as the birthday treats baked.
Hooch had himself a mock-choc bone-shaped birthday cake, and peanut buttter/banana PUPcakes. Both treats had a cream cheese icing also!
(I noticed after the picture was taken I had placed the “1” backwards!!…oops!)
Hooch had an abundance of birthday toys waiting for him in our camper when he woke up:
The announcer at the dock diving event even wished Hooch a happy birthday!
Happy First Birthday, Hooch…we love you!
Back to the Splash Spring Fling at Shipps Corner, Virginia Beach, VA
Now THIS was a fun event! Cello and Hooch participated in Shipps Corner’s Back to the Splash Spring Fling.
This National event was an 80’s theme, and everyone was encouraged to dress and decorate in the 80’s fashion.
Hooch immediately flaunted his swag:
Our team canopy was decorated with 80’s bling:
Hooch had himself an 80’s boom box:
There was an 80’s playlist jamming all weekend long, and the dock was also decorated 80’s style:
They used 80’s style bracelets in place of the regular Handlers’ bracelets:
Besides this event being an absolute blast, Limoncello and Hooch each ROCKED the dock! Check out the results below!

We all had a great 80’s weekend!
Downstairs Powder Room
This is the original bathroom of the home. It had a window which faced the street, and a tub/shower. By the time we had bought the cabin, the tub had been removed, the logs had been covered with paneling, and over the paneling drywall and wall paper had been installed.
This is the powder room the day we looked at the cabin for the first time.
I just couldn’t stand the wallpaper, so when we moved in, I painted over it as at temporary fix until we could get started on the construction of this room.
When we began to rip out the drywall and paneling, we also realized because of the way they married the walls to the bedroom and kitchen addition, it was best to add half-logs, rather than expose the original logs, as we had first planned.
Half logs were put on walls, and stained to match the original logs.
The toilet was too close to the wall now that the half logs were installed, so we had to move the toilet slightly.
…and repair the flooring…
Brian had the idea to make a vanity from a large cedar stump:
Brian hollowed out the stump using a chainsaw to make room for the pipes.
An in-set hole had to be made for the sink, and a hole for the faucet had to be cut. This was all very time-consuming, as we only had one shot at making this vanity right, or we’d have to search for another cedar stump!
Testing out the sink:
After all holes were cut, I applied a finish to the wood.
Moving the log into the powder room:
Vanity and sink in place, floor re-finished, and new toilet. We uncovered the original window of the bathroom and decided to have a piece of stained glass made to hang in its frame, since the window opening now backs up to the kitchen addition:
Stained glass installed!
Faux tin ceiling to replace the paneled ceiling:
This powder room is the FIRST officially completed room in our cabin!

Lakeside Landscaping
When we had Cello and Hooch’s dock diving runway put in, we decided to add some landscaping to make the lakeside yard look a bit nicer.
Ripping out the old lattice, and preparing for the stone work:
Old lattice was ripped off, new lattice was installed, and landscaping was added.

Got Dock?
Since Cello had gotten involved in dock diving, we have been talking about putting in a “runway” that would closely resemble the length and feel of the actual DockDogs dock.
Well, the project came to life – and even prompted us to get some landscaping and other renovations done on our lakeside!
The start of the “dock” began with digging …
…and leveling…
Limoncello and Hooch’s dock:
Cello trying to take the maiden jump, as Hooch is – – being HOOCH!
Hooch’s first jump off the dock (see he CAN “stay” when he wants to!)
We then purchased an Extreme Vertical rig so that Cello and Hooch can practice this discipline as well:
Cello taking the first “grab” from her new EV rig!
I’m sure Limoncello and Hooch will enjoy their at-home dock this summer!
Cello and Brian – Filmed By Drone!
At our last dock diving event, Family Fun Day, this past weekend in Elkton, MD, there was a drone flying around filming the weekend happenings.
Cello and Brian were filmed during one of their jumps – how cool is THAT?!?!
We were very excited with this first-time ever view of Cello in action!
Family Fun Day, Elkton, MD
Cello and Hooch’s first outdoor dock diving event of 2015 was held in Elkton, MD, at an event called Family Fun Day.

Woodlands Camping Resort, Elkton, MD
For Cello and Hooch’s Family Fun Day dock diving event, we camped at Woodlands Camping Resort in Elkton, MD.

Finding Nemo
Cello’s best friend is Nemo, a 4 year old male Boykin Spaniel. Cello and Nemo have been buds since the first week they both came home with their humans! “Finding Nemo” was one of the best things that happened to Cello – as Nemo is the only dog Cello truly ever fully “accepted.” If you have ever seen these two together, you can really see just how alike they are – and just how much they truly enjoy each other. They have played, swam, had sleep-overs, camped, and of course dock-dived together!
Cello and Nemo lounging on the couch together:
Cello and Nemo “holding hands” while sleeping during their first sleep-over:
Nemo, like Cello, has been dock diving for about 1.5 years. In fact, they attended their first-ever dock diving event together!
Nemo’s mom, Cindy, wrote a beautiful article on Nemo, which was published in the Boykin Spaniel Society Magazine, and included a mention of Cello.
The two pictures that were chosen for the magazine happen to be two pictures I took of Nemo and Cello at Nemo’s house.
The article is a wonderful read!
Although Nemo lives in our town, his mom, Cindy, has recently started a job in Michigan. Nemo and his parents travel back and forth from Michigan to NJ, and we are often away at dock diving events, so Cello and Nemo don’t get to see each other as often as they used to.
We wish we could gather more often, so we do try to get together whenever both families are home in NJ and have a free weekend!
11 Months
Our little (or NOT so little!) Hooch turned 11 months old on April 24!
He weighs 57 pounds now!
Hooch has been absolutely loving the water this Spring! He has been diving off of our dock at home!
Hooch has also been doing very well at his dock diving competitions!
In fact, on his 11 month birthday, Hooch competed in the Family Fun Day dock diving event, and earned 2 First Place medals, and 2 Second Place medals! Way to go, Hooch!
Happy 11 months, Hooch!
Nolde Forest State Park, Reading, PA
While camping at Eagles Peak Campground, we decided to do a local hike.
We ended up at Nolde Forest State Park – a gorgeous sate park with more than 665 acres of beautiful woodlands.
What a beautiful place to hike! This area was acquired by Jacob Nolde in the early 1900s. As the story goes, a single white pine grew in a meadow. Inspired by this tree, Jacob Nolde hired an Austrian forester to create a coniferous forest. As the trees grew, they formed a this magnificent forest!
There was a pretty stream running through most of our hike.
Cello and Hooch were excited to be on this adventure!
Throughout the hike, there were many unique stone bridges and lined walkways.
This was Hooch’s first Pennsylvania hike – and first hike in the warmer weather. He was getting tired quickly, and began to stop in the shady areas for a breather!
At one point, in usual Hooch fashion, he decided he was “DONE!”
At the end of the hike, we were rewarded with the beauty of an early 1920’s mansion. In 1926, Hans Nolde, a son of Jacob, began work on the Tudor-style mansion that sits on the property. Today, visitors can tour the grounds as well as the inside of this mansion.
The garden area of the mansion was incredible!
Pennsylvania purchased the property in the late 1960s , and in 1970, Nolde Forest was established as the first environmental education center operated by the Bureau of State Parks. Now operated by the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, and Bureau of State Parks, the park provides a wide variety of programs for students, teachers, and adult groups. Teaching stations offer places for students to work, and benches for those who wish to sit and enjoy nature.
Eagles Peak Campground, Robesonia, PA
We were invited by friends to camp at Eagles Peak Campground in Robesonia, PA. What a GREAT weekend we had!
We had a very large, pull-through site (site 238).
This campground had lots of cool features for kids!
The “Fun Zone” had a variety of inflatable slides and obstacle courses.
The Eagles Peak Grand Prix is a race course for remote control cars:
Miniature Golf Course:
This campground also had two pools (one for the kids, and one for the adults) but the pools were not open for the season yet.
We enjoyed walking around the campground, sitting around the campfire, and cooking up an incredible feast of crabs, clams, shrimp, filet mignon,
corn, potatoes, onions, broccoli, and asparagus with our group of friends! YUM!
Just a short drive brought us to a beautiful hike in Nolde Forest.
It was a fun weekend filled with good friends, fun conversation, interesting adventures, and delicious food!

TurboPUP Ambassadors
As some of you may have noticed, we now have a TurboPUP badge on the home page of our blog.
Limoncello and Hooch are VERY proud to announce that they have been chosen to be ambassadors for TurboPUP (as seen on Shark Tank!!)
Click HERE to see Shark Tank episode – start at the 21:30 mark.
TurboPUP was founded by Kristina Guerrero (who’s nicknamed “Turbo”). Easter 2015 – Frontier Town Campground: Berlin, MD
This Easter we camped with friends at one of our favorite campgrounds – Frontier Town Campground, in Berlin, MD.
We first discovered Frontier Town Campground when we attended a dock diving competition held right in the campground! We camped here for the dock diving competition as well.
Here is the view from our site:
The water views around the campground are gorgeous!
This was Hooch’s first-ever Easter! It was exciting to make his basket for the first time!
Cello’s Easter basket:
Easter morning – the Easter Bunny has arrived to the 5th Wheel with toys and treats!
Cello and Hooch had a great time opening their Easter baskets with the help of their Pop!
After Cello and Hooch opened their Easter baskets, they had an Easter egg hunt in the 5th Wheel! …see if you can find all the “hidden” eggs!
Yay! Hooch found his first bacon-filled Easter egg!
After each egg is found, the pup who found the egg gets the bacon inside of the egg – Hooch thought this was LOTS of fun, and waited patiently for his bacon reward!
Hooch enjoyed all his Easter treats and toys – and, of course, stole Cello’s bunny toy!
Overall, we had a great trip, and Hooch enjoyed his first-ever Easter!
10 Months
On March 24, Hooch turned 10 months old… how did he get so big so fast?!?!
Hooch is now taller than his sister, Cello, and weighs 50 pounds. He continues to love the water and dock diving, although he still will not jump off our dock at home, and still hesitates to jump at competitions. Hooch has picked up a stronger toy-drive, and enjoys chasing a tennis or soccer ball, and chewing on sticks. He is the happiest, puppy we know, and he makes us laugh every day, as he is such a goof-ball! Happy 10 months, buddy – we love you!
First Trip With Our New 5th Wheel – Elk Neck State Park, North East, MD
Six days after getting our new 5th Wheel, we took a trip to one of our favorite places – Elk Neck State Park.
Cello and Hooch had their travel buddies, Olaf and Hulk to keep them company on our ride.
We have always stayed in the North East Loop of the campground, but this was the first time we have stayed on this campsite. However, this was not the site we booked!
Backing the 5th Wheel in for the first time did not go as smoothly as planned. It had rained a lot the few days prior to us arriving to the campground, so the ground was very wet and soggy. As we were trying to back in to our reserved spot, the truck got stuck in the mud! A nice man came to our rescue and towed us out! We wound up having to switch campsites with our friends because we could not get our 5th Wheel into our reserved campsite.
Finally in our new campsite, safe and sound!
Cello has been to Elk Neck State Park several times already, (see below) – but this was Hooch’s first time visiting this great park! Cello has been to Elk Neck State Park three other times prior to this trip:
The weather was not so great when we first arrived. However, we did bundle up and take a nice long walk around the campground.
The weather continued to worsen, and it began to SNOW! Cello and Hooch could not believe their eyes!
The cold snowy weather gave us some time to enjoy our new 5th Wheel. Cello and Hooch settled right in, and seem to love their new home-away-from-home!

Unfortunately, we also had our first injury to report in our new 5th Wheel. Cello and Hooch were playing, and both dogs dove for a toy that had gone under one of the recliners. Before we knew it, Cello dove under the recliner, and cut herself very close to her eye. We are very lucky she missed her eye!
Luckily the weather warmed up a bit on our last day, and we were able to take a nice long walk and visit the beach! Hooch also got to play with his Vizsla buddy, Dash!
Hooch:
Cello:
We had a great first trip in our new 5th Wheel, and very much enjoyed all of the new upgrades and luxuries that we did not have in our travel trailer. We are looking forward to many camping trips and fond memories to come in our new camper!
Nutty Squirrels!
This cute squirrel treat recipe was taken from Dog Treat Kitchen – I modified it a bit from the original recipe. I loved the look of the cookie, but wanted to make the treat grain free, and as organic as possible.
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup organic buckwheat flour (I used Arrowhead Mills brand)
- 1 cup organic almond flour
- 2 Tbsp organic ground flax
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1 very ripe medium organic banana
- 2 Tbsp organic beef broth (I make my own – but be sure if you purchase to check that there is no form of onion listed in the ingredients!!)
- 1 Tbsp organic safflower or sunflower oil
Topping Ingredients:
- 1 Tbsp water
- 1 tsp organic honey
- 2 Tbsp finely chopped organic raw sunflower seeds
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 350° F
- In a large bowl, whisk together the buckwheat flour, almond flour, flax and cinnamon.
- In a small bowl, thoroughly mash the banana, then stir in the beef broth and oil until combined.
- Pour the banana mixture into the flour mixture.
- Stir together until you reach a coarse crumby texture.
- Knead the dough with your hand, in the bowl, until it forms a dough ball.
- Line your baking sheet with parchment paper, or dust it with buckwheat flour so the dough will not stick.
- Roll dough to 1/2 inch thickness, between two sheets of parchment paper (or dust top of dough with flour).
- Transfer cut outs to baking sheet.
- Bake for 10 minutes.
- Turn off the oven, and leave the treats inside while the oven cools.
- Once completely cooled, apply the glaze and sunflower seed topping.
Topping Instructions:
- In a microwave safe bowl, combine the water and honey.
- Microwave on high for 5 to 10 seconds.
- Stir together until the honey is completely dissolved.
- Using a pastry brush, brush the honey glaze on the tail of the squirrel.
- Press the tail into the finely chopped nuts.
- Set aside, and let the glaze dry before serving to your dog.
These treats will stay fresh in the fridge for up to one month, or in the freezer for up to 6 months.
Yield – Depending on the cookie cutter(s) you use, you’ll be able to get about 9, 1/2 inch thick squirrels. Using the squirrel cookie cutter I had, I got 9 squirrels, and used an acorn cookie cutter for the smaller, left over dough pieces. The yield will vary, depending on the size of dog treat cookie cutter(s) you use and how thick you roll the dough.
TIPS:
- Rolling dog treat dough is so easy with parchment paper. If you don’t have it, you can to dust your work surface and rolling pin with buckwheat flour to keep it from sticking. You can line your baking sheets with parchment paper – or spray your baking sheet with non-stick spray before placing the cut outs onto it.
- For some dough mixtures such as this one that may be a bit stickier, try filling a shallow dish or bowl with flour and dip the cutter into it before each cut. Then very gently wiggle the cutter back and forth to separate it from the rest of the dough.
I hope your pooch enjoys this treat as much as Cello has!
4 Yrs
Happy 4th birthday to Limoncello!
On March 14, 2015, Cello turned 4!
Over the past year, Cello has:
- continued to achieve in dock diving
- adapted to multiple fosters in the house
- welcomed her new brother (she even occasionally pretends like she likes her brother, Hooch!)
- added new adventures to her “been there” list
- grown a white goatee
- became an ambassador for TurboPup
Cello continues to be happy and energetic – and we love her so much! Happy Birthday, pretty girl!
Goodbye Travel Trailer, Hello 5th Wheel!
On March 14, (Cello’s birthday!) we traded said goodbye to our travel trailer, and bought a new 5th Wheel!
We are away so often at dock diving events, that we decided to upgrade our GLAMping to incorporate a 2014 Grand Design Solitude 369rl – and we LOVE it!
Bye Bye, travel trailer! We brought our 2013 Jayco White Hawk home to unload it. We will miss this camper, and all the great memories it brought to us!
All pictures were taken with my phone the day we looked at the 5th Wheel and decided to buy it.
This is our new 2014 Grand Design Solitude 369rl. It is 39 feet long!
A much bigger refrigerator than our travel trailer!
I love the floor plan, and the roomy feel the island gives to the kitchen area.
A pantry and fireplace… two things we didn’t have in our travel trailer – but are LOVING in this camper!
Theater seating with 2 recliners:
This shower is MUCH bigger than our old one! (Pink stuff is the antifreeze since it was still winterized when we looked at it)
King size bed (we had a Queen in our last camper ).
Other side of the bedroom:
Our huge bedroom closet:
Picking up the new 5th Wheel….
At the dealer were made to watch a movie on how to work the RV – Brian is carefully watching the sewer hose hook-up 😉
Going through our class on how everything works…
Getting ready to haul this beast home!
Backing into the storage lot for the first time…
We love our new camper!
Here we are taking a break from setting up and unpacking at the storage lot:
Our camping sign from last year displayed a travel trailer and only a “Cello” dog bone – – so a new camping sign to include our 5th wheel and Hooch was in order!
We didn’t waste any time – we immediately booked at trip to Elk Neck State Park. Brian, Jenny, and Hooch have been there before – but this was Hooch’s first time there!
Staybridge Suites
Cello and Hooch stayed at Staybridge Suites in Harrisburg, PA for their indoor dock diving event, Winter Meltdown.
This hotel was very conveniently located right outside of the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex, where Winter Meltdown was being held.

This hotel offers several favorable amenities, including:
- free wireless internet
- fitness center
- laundry facilities
- indoor heated pool
- complementary breakfast buffet
- 24-hour pantry with snacks, drinks, and other items
The room was clean, and the people were friendly. Our room had a king size bed, sitting area, and a full kitchen. Cello and Hooch made themselves right at home!
It’s hard to believe that it was last year (for this same dock diving event) that Cello stayed in a hotel for the very first time!
Next year we will definitely book a room in this hotel for the 2016 Winter Meltdown!
Winter Meltdown, hosted by Keystone DockDogs in Harrisburg, PA
Cello and Hooch’s third dock diving event of the 2015 season was hosted by Keystone DockDogs.
This event, “Winter Meltdown,” was held at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg, PA.
Cello
Cello had been going through a little bit of a slump, but during this event, she really seemed to be starting to get back on track! We were very proud of her!

The photo contest had several categories, and of course with these two nuts, ours was submitted for the “Action” category… and won!

9 Months
Hooch turned 9 months old on February 24th. He’s getting so big! He is now officially taller than his sister, Cello!
Over the past month, Hooch has earned his first 1st Place ribbon in dock diving, qualified for Finals for the first time – AND came in 2nd Place in the Novice Finals! Way to go, Hooch!
Hooch LOVES playing in the snow! And thank goodness, because we’ve had LOTS of it over the past month!
One of Hooch’s favorite things is playing ball in the snow!
Happy 9 Months, Hoochie!

Cello’s Cheezy Cheez-Its
Who doesn’t like Cheese?! Cello’s Cheezy Cheez-Its is the newest recipe tried in Cello’s Cucina! As always, this treat is made with all organic ingredients, and is 100% grain-free.
INGREDIENTS:
- 1 cup organic almond flour
- 1/4 cup organic tapioca flour
- 1 certified organic egg, lightly beaten
- 1/2 cup organic finely shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 1/2 Tbsp organic safflower oil
INSTRUCTIONS:
- Preheat oven to 350° F
- In a large bowl, whisk together the almond flour and tapioca flour.
- In a small bowl, lightly beat the egg. Then stir in the cheese and oil.
- Pour the cheese mixture into the flour mixture, and stir with a fork until thoroughly combined.
- Cut out a piece of parchment paper to fit your baking sheet, and use this piece as your work-space.
- Next, place the dough onto the parchment paper, and cover with a second piece of parchment paper. Using a rolling-pin, flatten the dough very thin (to about 1/16 inch).
- Remove the top piece of parchment paper and transfer parchment with the dough onto your baking sheet.
- Using a pizza cutter, cut the flattened dough into 1 inch by 1 inch squares.
- Bake for 15 minutes. Leave the treats in the oven to cool after the oven has been turned off to ensure they get nice and crunchy!
Storage: These treats can be kept in the fridge for up to 1 month, or in the freezer for up to 6 months.
“Bone” Appetit!

Virginia World of Pets Expo, Hampton, VA
What a fun and exciting Valentines Day weekend we had!
We took a 5.5 hour drive down to Hampton, Virginia, for Cello and Hooch to participate in the World of Pets Expo dock diving competition,”Lover’s Leap,” hosted by Tidewater DockDogs.
In celebration of Valentine’s Day, there was a Pawentine’s Box decorating contest.
Before we left, I built our Pawentine’s Box. Here are the pictures after I built the box with foam board and a hot glue gun:
Here is the final product:
There were many other great Pawentine’s Boxes in the contest as well:
We made Pawentine cards to place in the other boxes:
Hooch and Cello received lots of really cute Pawentines in our box!
The dog treats above were homemade by our friend, Mandy. Check out her Face Book page – her cookies are AMAZING!
We won the contest!
Although Cello has not been performing up to her last season’s standards, she had a great weekend! Cello competed as an Iron Dog, and participated in all three events: Big Air, Extreme Vertical, and Speed Retrieve.
In Big Air, Cello’s longest jump of the weekend was 21’11.” She made the Elite Finals, and placed Third.
In Extreme Vertical, She reached a height of 5’4,” and placed Third overall in the Cadet Division.
Cello set a new Personal Best in Speed Retrieve at 8.788 seconds:
…AND Cello placed FIRST in Iron Dog in the Warrior Division! Way to go, Cello!
Hooch also had a BIG weekend! He placed in every Big Air wave he jumped in, and earned his first First Place ribbon!
In just his second event ever, Hooch even made Novice Finals – and placed Second!
Hooch was once again, a crowd-pleaser, with his last-minute “pop” off the dock:
Hooch’s best jump of the weekend was 8’10”
While we were there, someone recognized Cello from our Instagram account — our friends, Cyndee and Lola – – How cool is THAT?!?!
This was a SUPER-fun event, and the best Valentine’s Day weekend ever!
Cello and Hooch hope everyone had a great Valentine’s Day!
Liebster Award Nomination – Our First Blogging Award!
LIEBSTER AWARD
This is our first ever blogging award!
Cello’s Corner has been nominated for the prestigious blogging Liebster Award by canine friends, Buzz and Missy, and their mom, Barbara, over at k9sovercoffee.com !
We want to thank you, Buzz,Missy, and Barbara, not only for this nomination, but for all your support, advice, and encouragement as Jenny continues to learn the “how-to’s” of blogging!
It was fun answering the questions that were presented to us by k9sovercoffee.com ! I hope you enjoy reading some new, or unknown facts about our pack. Incorporated throughout this post are lots of pictures within our responses. I hope that you take delight in the “visuals” of our replies as well!
Here are our 11 Questions from K9sOverCoffee:
1. What is your & your pup’s favorite outdoorsy activity & why?
Our pack’s favorite outdoorsy activity is hiking. In fact, we have a post that explains the benefits of hiking with your dog, as well as a whole section of our blog dedicated to Cello and Hooch’s hiking adventures! We enjoy hiking because it provides many benefits to Cello and Hooch, such as exercise, bonding time with their human pack members, variety in their surroundings to keep them stimulated, and socialization with other pups and “peeps” on the trail! Hiking also benefits the two humans of our pack (Jenny and Brian) by giving us an opportunity to exercise with our pups, relieve the stress of our day, reward us with a sense of accomplishment, and (my favorite!) it allows for many, many breathtaking views and picture opportunities!
2. Does your pup have a favorite sleeping position?
Yes, and Yes! Cello’s favorite position is either curled up under the covers, or cuddled up with her favorite “baby,” Lamb Chop. Hooch’s favorite sleeping position is on his back, with his legs spread wide open, as he snores (loudly!)
3. Have you had any crazy vet expenses?
Luckily (knock on wood!) we have been fairly lucky with vet expenses. Although Cello has had many issues since she was a pup, and is currently dealing with a skin and liver-value issue, our expenses have not been outrageous, as we have experienced in the past with both of our Miniature Pinschers. Once we were out of the “puppy shots” stage with Hooch, we have been very fortunate with his health and vet expenses as well.
4. What are your thoughts on dog insurance ~ yay or nay?
Yay…yay…YAY! As I mentioned in #3, we had 2 Minature Pinschers (Dante and Cleopatra) (who have since passed), who had many health issues throughout their lives. We did not have insurance for either of them. Both had severe health problems their entire lives, and both fell very, very ill in the their old age. We spent thousands (AND thousands) of dollars at a time during these episodes, and regretted not having insurance. When we brought Cello and Hooch home, the first thing we did is sign up for insurance! I know of several people who all use different companies, but we went with VPI Pet Insurance through a recommendation of our prior vet, and we have had great experiences with them so far.
5. Do you feed raw food or have you considered it?
At the moment we do not feed raw. For dry kibble, we feed Orijen to both Cello and Hooch. Hooch is on the “Puppy Large” variety, and Cello is on the “Six Fish” Variety. Both pups get a hard-boiled organic egg twice a week, and both get daily additions of Grizzly Salmon Oil, Coconut Oil, and Nupro in each of their meals. In the recent past, we had given thought to switching over to raw when it was discovered that Cello not only had a chicken allergy, but also had crystals in her urine, and a skin disorder. We did lots of research, and decided to try our current feeding option for Cello first. We switched to Six Fish Orijen, increased her water intake, increased her protein by adding organic cooked bison, salmon, and eggs to each of her meals. Cello also gets an additional supplement of Milk Thistle to help regulate her liver values. So far this has ben beneficial to Cello, and has improved her conditions. However, if we find that her nutritional intake is not keeping her as healthy as can be, we will again look into the option of feeding raw.
6. If you use specific poop bags ~ do you have a favorite brand? (we love Mutt Mitts)
We do not use specific poop bags, but do carry LOTS of them everywhere we go, as both Cello and Hooch are masters of relieving themselves in THE most embarrassing places on the occasion we have forgotten our poop bags, or have not brought enough!
7. What brought you to the blogging world (other than your pawsome pup)?
Cello is the sole reason the blog was created! My goal was to document our adventures, and share with the world the abundance of love and joy Cello (and now Hooch!!) bring to us each and every day!
8. Does your K9 have a feline best friend?
Cello and Hooch have a feline brother-from-another-mother, named Loki, named (quite appropriately) after the Norse god of trickery and mischief! Loki thinks he is “just one of the dawgs!” He has a funny personality, and loves to snuggle with his pack, meows for treats, and follows us everywhere we go in the house!
9. What does your perfect Saturday (or other day off) look like?
Ahhh, the weekend – a day off means a day of fun…our favorite! Our perfect weekend day is doing what we enjoy with Cello and Hooch. We are fortunate to live on a lake, so some weekend days we enjoy just sitting on our dock, letting Cello and Hooch dive and swim. We also enjoy hiking with Cello and Hooch, and seeking out dog-friendly attractions, historical sites, and wineries / breweries (Cello even knows how to sit on a bar stool, and has been served a drink {of water!} at the bar!) Cello and Hooch also participate in dock diving competitions, so on many Saturdays and Sundays we are at events with family and friends, which we also enjoy very much enjoy!
10. Does your pup like his paws handled?
We have tried our best to pet, touch, and message both Cello and Hooch all over their body since they were small pups, in hopes to make them comfortable with being handled either by us, or a veterinarian. Both Cello and Hooch are really great about letting us touch their paws and trim their nails.
11. Do you indulge in doggie kisses?
Definitely – – and and as often as we can!
11 Random Facts about our Pack:
1. Cello’s full name is “Tommy D’s Limoncello,” and originates from Jenny’s grandfather’s homemade Limoncello recipe.
2. Cello and Hooch live in an authentic log cabin, built in 1927. Jenny and Brian have been (slowly!) renovating the cabin themselves over the past five years, back to it’s original beauty.
3. Hooch’s full name is “Windy Spot’s Homemade Hooch,” and is a combination of the name of our cabin, and the homemade Limoncello in #1. Read the full story HERE!
4. Our entire pack volunteers for the German Shorthaired Pointer Rescue of NJ by doing home visits, calling potential adopters, transporting dogs, volunteering at events, and fostering. Cello and Hooch very much enjoy volunteering as donation dogs while Jenny and Brian help educate others about the GSP breed and rescue.
5. Cello’s DockDiving Big Air personal best (distance) is 23′ 7″ … and Hooch’s is 16′ .
6. Cello has visited 9 states in her 3 years, and Hooch has vacationed in 6 states in just his short 8 months!! …Hooch has spent more weekends away, then he has at home!
7. We love to go camping!!
8. Since there have been so many recalls on food and treats, Jenny started “Cello’s Cucina,” and bakes homemade treats for Cello and Hooch.
9. Cello has appeared in the newspaper for Halloween and dock diving, and has been featured in a calendar as well as in The Dog Show Journal. Hooch recently won a contest and is going to be featured on a greeting card.
10. Cello has ridden on a public bus, a ferry (to both Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard!), a tour bus, and a golf cart during our traveling adventures.
11. Cello and Hooch’s coloring is called “Liver.”
